Findings

Challenges

Challenges: During my research, I discovered that users encountered various challenges while using different hotel booking websites. Although each user had unique needs and experiences, there were common hurdles that many of them faced. These challenges included:
  • Too much scrolling: Users found it tiresome to scroll through lengthy pages to find the desired information or navigate to different sections of the website.
  • Difficulty accessing the map: The map feature, which is crucial for users to locate hotels in their preferred areas, was not easily accessible or prominently displayed on the websites.
  • Lack of hotel and room comparison: Users expressed frustration when attempting to compare hotels and rooms side by side, as it was not a seamless or intuitive process on the booking websites.
  • Confusing add-ons: Users encountered difficulties in understanding the various add-ons or additional services offered by hotels. The lack of clear explanations and options for more detailed information caused confusion and hindered decision-making.
  • Challenges in changing dates and location: Users faced hurdles when trying to modify their booking dates or select a different location, which caused frustration and hindered the overall user experience.

Solutions

To address these challenges and enhance the user experience, I have devised the following solutions: -Condense information on a single page:
  • By optimizing the layout and design, I aim to minimize the need for excessive scrolling, allowing users to access key information more efficiently.
  • Prominently display the map: I propose placing the map feature in a prominent and easily accessible spot, ensuring that users can swiftly locate hotels in their desired areas.
  • Implement a hotel and room comparison feature: To facilitate the decision-making process, I suggest providing a clear and intuitive way for users to compare hotels and rooms, enabling them to make informed choices.
  • Provide clear explanations for add-ons: I recommend offering concise explanations of add-ons, accompanied by the option for users to access more detailed information if desired. This will alleviate confusion and help users make informed decisions.
  • Enable easy modification of dates and location: To enhance flexibility, I propose incorporating user-friendly options that allow users to modify their booking dates and select different locations effortlessly.

My Learings

During the creation of the flow chart, I initially included all the steps required to complete the booking process. However, as I progressed to develop the low-fidelity design, I realized that certain steps could be eliminated to simplify the process. By enhancing the descriptions of the hotels and rooms, users can make informed decisions without unnecessary steps.

In my effort to provide more information to users, I initially added an information button. However, through user testing, I discovered that this approach could lead to user frustration. To address this, I opted for a more streamlined approach. I incorporated a simple explanation directly accessible to users, while reserving more detailed information for the 'about' page. This ensures that users have the necessary information without overwhelming them with excessive details.

While working on the wireframe, I recognized the need to make adjustments to the flow. To improve user navigation and flexibility, I included additional options that allow users to easily move back and forth within the process. This enhances the overall usability of the website and provides a more intuitive experience.

Reflecting on my survey efforts, I realized that there were opportunities for improvement. The survey group was small, and the questions were not as well-thought-out as they could have been. To gather more meaningful feedback in the future, I will aim to expand the sample size and refine the survey questions, ensuring they are clear, comprehensive, and aligned with my research goals.

Thiss will result in more valuable insights that can inform the design process effectively. By recognizing and addressing these areas for improvement, I am committed to refining my design approach and delivering an exceptional user experience.

Sumuary

In embarking on my first UX design case study, I have gained invaluable insights and experiences. I have come to recognize the profound significance of employing appropriate research and analysis techniques, which greatly enhance the accuracy of a case study. Additionally, I have had the pleasure of acquainting myself with cutting-edge tools such as Figma and Miro, which have truly sparked my enthusiasm. Throughout this journey, I have developed a profound appreciation for the everyday applications and websites that we often take for granted. Despite the speculative nature of this design case study, I firmly believe that the skills I have acquired are applicable in real-world scenarios. I am genuinely proud of the progress I have made thus far, and this achievement has only amplified my eagerness to continue learning and honing my craft./p>
